COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Each year SSR works to give back to the community we are privileged to serve, extending this service beyond our facility and into surrounding communities as volunteers and partners. Among the organization we support are Toys for Tots, La Casa Garcia (wegivethanks.org), CARE organization, and Orange County Women's Shelters. We also sponsor health fairs offering free screenings for cholesterol, diabetes, and bone density, as well as information on a variety of health topics. SSR also provides food baskets to needy families in our communities and sponsors patient education programs.

Our history of community involvement parallels our growth as a multi-specialty medical group in Orange County. We are committed to expanding that tradition as the needs of our community grow. From the community participation of our employees to the development of unique local partnerships, we look forward to continued engagement in our communities.

Great Workers' Compensation Debate of 2008

On April 24, 2008, Southland Spine & Rehabilitation sponsored the Great Workers' Compensation Debate of 2008 at the Doubletree Hotel in Santa Ana. The State Bar approved this symposium for three hours of MCLE legal specialization and paralegal credit. This was an occasion for Applicant and Defense attorneys to meet and present their perspectives on changes in the workers' compensation law and discuss some important cases.

Dennis Thomas and Lon Peek, II represented Applicant attorneys, and Bill McCormick and Nathan Halprin presented the defense side of the arguments. Barry Hinden moderated the debate.

Topics discussed included apportionment, ACOEM Guidelines, MPNs, and important new cases, including Benson, Flores, and Patino.

The discussion was open, spirited and very interesting to the assembled attorneys and their staffs.

The event was so well-received that SSR hopes to make it an annual event.

Operations

Southland Spine & Rehabilitation provides a professional and compassionate staff to help patients through the treatment process. Our integrated network of physicians, nurses, physicians' assistants include specialists in orthopaedics, internal medicine, pain management, chiropractic, acupuncture, podiatry, neurology, psychology, and physical therapy. SSR also provides surgical specialists for the cervical and lumbar spine, shoulders and hands, knees, feet and ankles. Our pain management specialists perform epidural and other injections.

Our multilingual staff coordinates appointments and assists patients in the sometimes confusing process of managing workers' compensation issues, private insurance, and EDD forms. Our staff is training to process insurance forms from many companies. We obtain the necessary authorizations to keep treatment progressing and to ultimately improve the injured worker's status.

Riverside Office

Southland Spine & Rehabilitation's new facility in Riverside opened in December 2007 to serve the Inland Empire. The Riverside clinic is staffed with specialists in orthopaedic surgery, neurology, psychology, and pain management. We are already in the process of expanding to a larger space with expanded services so that the Inland Empire will be even better served by SSR's caring staff and excellent service.
